Lake Cams

Clear Lake and Ventura residents have a high-tech front row seat to activities at two different locations on the lake.

CLvision and CLtel utilize fiber optic cable to provide action views of the lake near the downtown seawall and of the lake dredging project. The fiber optic technology provides full-motion live broadcasts for CLvision Digital Cable TV customers.

The first Lake Cam was installed in July 2004 to give residents a high-tech birds-eye view of five young osprey which were relocated from Wisconsin to a hack tower at the Iowa Regular Baptist Camp. Residents could watch as the young raptors were fed by volunteers until they were ready to fly and fish in Clear Lake for their own food. Five more osprey were brought from Wisconsin in July 2005, July 2006, July 2007 with the last bunch arriving in July 2008. It is hoped that the osprey will return to Clear Lake as a nesting ground.

The Lake Cam was moved to broadcast the demolition and redevelopment of the old bakery building site downtown in the fall of 2004. After completion of the bakery site, the a second cam was added to the downtown seawall area in the summer of 2005 to broadcast the national MC sailboat regatta, the Fourth of July fireworks, the wooden boat show and other lake activities.

"We had such a great response about both locations of the cams, we purchased another Lake Cam so that customers are able to view both the osprey site and the downtown lake view site." said Tom Lovell, General Manager.

After the Osprey left in July 0f 2008, the camera was moved to the give Clear Lake and Ventura area residents the ability to view the historic dredging of the little lake portion of Clear Lake from their homes. The camera has now been moved to the construction of the fishing jetty in the little end of the lake.

The jetty construction cam can be viewed on CLvision Channel 500 and the lake view site on CLvision Channel 2. Each is being broadcast 24 hours a day.

It is also possible to view both Lake Cams here, utilizing high speed Internet technology. Click the links below to view the Lake View or the Dredging cam.
